After the murder of mafia don Atiq Ahmed along with his brother Ashraf, media reports are discussing Atiq’s prophecy about 19 years ago. In 2004, during his campaign for the Phulpur constituency in the Loksabha Elections, Atiq had told the media, “There will be an encounter… or the police killed or someone lost his community.” Milb lying on the side of the road. Atiq had a premonition of his death like this

On being reminded that the Phulpur parliamentary seat from which he is contesting was once represented by India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru… Atiq replied, ‘Like Panditji, we have also been in Naini Jail. Wrote that book there, we had to go because of our history sheet.

Ateeq was killed by a barrage of bullets
Ateeq’s prediction made in 2004 finally proved true in Prayagraj on Saturday. In Prayagraj, mafia kingpin Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were murdered in police custody when he was talking to the media. Three people have been arrested for the murder of Atiq and his brother Ashraf. Both the mafia brothers had entered the hospital premises, where their medical examination was to be done. Meanwhile, Atiq and Ashraf started talking to the media. During this conversation, three people who arrived posing as media persons shot him dead.

Ateeq’s political journey
Atiq, who has become synonymous with fear in the world of crime, started his political journey in 1989. He won the Allahabad West seat as an independent candidate. As an independent candidate, Atiq Ahmed retained his seat in the next two consecutive assembly elections. Atiq’s fourth victory was on Samajwadi Party ticket. Atiq Ahmed was also the president of Apna Dal between 1999 and 2003. In 2002, Atiq won the election on Apna Dal ticket. Atiq returned to the Samajwadi Party and was elected MP from Phulpur in Uttar Pradesh in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections. After the Raju Pal murder case in 2005, Atiq Ahmed surrendered in 2008. After this he was expelled from the Samajwadi Party. Raju Pal was a BSP MLA who defeated Atiq’s brother Ashraf in an assembly bypoll in 2005. The by-election was held after Atiq was elected as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha. In 2014, Atiq was taken back to the Samajwadi Party. Atiq again contested the Lok Sabha elections on SP ticket, but lost to the BJP candidate. The 2014 Lok Sabha election was his last attempt in politics.

Atiq’s criminal record
In the last four decades, 101 criminal cases were registered against Atiq in Uttar Pradesh. According to police records, the first murder case against Atiq was registered in 1979. Atiq was the first criminal, on whom a case was registered under the Gangster Act of Uttar Pradesh. He was involved in several crimes including murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping, cheating, intimidation and land grabbing. Ateeq was also accused in the murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal in 2005. The incident took place when the BSP MLA challenged Atiq’s supremacy and won the election against his brother Khalid Azim. Raju Pal was shot dead three months after defeating Atiq’s younger brother from the Allahabad (West) assembly seat. Gangster-turned-politician Atiq was also accused of abducting Umesh Pal, the main witness in Raju Pal’s murder. Atiq had forced Umesh Pal to write a statement that when Raju Pal was not present at the crime scene and did not want to testify. Umesh Pal was sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2006 kidnapping case. The early signs of Atiq’s downfall came in 2016 when his associates were accused of attacking college staff in Prayagraj. He had assaulted the education officers and staff who took action against the students who had cheated in an examination.
