This day is celebrated every year on 9th December to spread awareness and warn people for its eradication.
The United Nations has considered corruption as a serious crime and states that it negatively affects the social and economic development of any nation. It undermines democratic institutions, slows economic growth, and promotes governmental instability. The United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention Against Corruption on October 31, 2003. December 9 has been designated as International Anti-Corruption Day to raise awareness about corruption as well as to combat and prevent it. This year’s theme is ‘uniting the world against corruption’.
Eradicating corruption requires both individual and collective efforts. In this honesty of every person is necessary, as well as there is a need for unity of all including government officials, civil servants, law enforcement officers, media, government and private organizations, education world, youth. Eliminating it is a collective responsibility for which solidarity is necessary. We all know that corruption is like a termite which slowly hollows out our system, that’s why it is necessary to stand against it to save our society from it.
