New Delhi:
A high-level meeting is being held in the Union Home Ministry on Tuesday on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir, including smuggling of drugs and weapons through drones being sent from across the border by Pakistan. The meeting, which is being chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla, is attended by top officials of the Union Territory and senior officials of security agencies. The meeting is being held in hybrid mode.
According to the information, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Arun Mehta, Director General of Police Dilbag Singh, top officials of Intelligence Bureau and RAW, chiefs of paramilitary forces and senior officials of the Union Home Ministry are involved in this important meeting. According to sources, along with the review of development projects in Jammu and Kashmir, the security situation in the union territory is also being reviewed in this meeting.
According to sources, in this meeting there will also be a discussion to deal with the problem of drone infiltration which has emerged as a big challenge for the security forces deployed on the border. Let us inform that BSF has shot down about 20 drones on the border this year. Whereas last year this figure was only one. Not only this, a large number of drugs and weapons have also been recovered. The meeting can also discuss the target killing of members of minority communities and laborers who have come to work from outside in Jammu and Kashmir.
Significantly, after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir in October, this is the first meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs on the security of Jammu and Kashmir. Only last month, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and informed about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
