AIS Officers Special Allowances : Good news for state officials. Actually they will be given the benefit of special allowance. Its notification has been issued by the state government. As per the notification, 20% of the basic pay will be provided to the officers as special allowance. Earlier, the Center had withdrawn the special allowance given to All India Service officers posted in the state.
Decision on this in the state cabinet meeting
The notification has been issued by the Assam government on Friday. Under the notification, an incentive of 20% of the basic pay of the employees and special allowance will be provided as relief to the IAS-IPS officers. The decision on this was taken in the meeting of the state cabinet held by the Assam government on October 7.
Allowance will be in the form of 20% of their basic pay
The same IAS IPS officers of All India Service will be provided special allowance incentive allowance retrospectively from 23 September. This allowance will be provided to them in the form of 20% of their basic pay. Also, the special allowance will be reimbursed from the consolidated fund of the state. Its benefit will be given to the officers of Assam Meghalaya Combined Cadre. AIS officers include officers from the Indian Administrative Service as well as the Indian Police Service and the Indian Forest Service.
Central government had closed the facility
It may be noted that earlier a letter was issued by the Central Department of Personnel and Training on 24 April. In which it was said that the special incentive allowance given to AIS officers posted in the northeastern state is withdrawn with immediate effect. This letter was issued addressing all the Chief Secretaries. Along with this, the housing facility was also withdrawn from the officers concerned after their retirement due to fear of North East.
Since 2009, 25% of the basic pay was provided to them as additional monetary allowance by the central government. This benefited the AIS officers of Northeast cadre from Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya. Now the state government has announced to give 20% of basic pay to AIS employees as special allowance and incentive allowance.
