Employees Retirement Age Hike: There is good news for teachers and employees of Uttar Pradesh. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has given a major decision in the interest of the teaching staff-teachers of Lucknow University. The Lucknow High Court has directed the state government to increase the retirement age of these employees by 3 years.

Actually, Justice OP Shukla’s bench passed this order on the petition of Dr. Premchandra Mishra and others. The Allahabad High Court has directed the state government to increase the retirement age of teaching staff of Lucknow University from 62 years to 65 years. The state government has been given three months to make necessary changes in the rules. After the implementation of this directive in 2023, the retirement age of the teaching staff of Lucknow University will increase by 3 more years.

These rules will apply

Counsel for the petitioners argued that the Central Government has already decided that the retirement age of teaching staff of higher and technical educational institutions funded by the Center should be increased to 65 years. In 2010, the same University Grants Commission (UGC) directed all universities to implement the decision of the Center, in such a situation, these rules also apply to Lucknow University, which should be followed. To this, the High Court said that the respondent State of Uttar Pradesh would have to amend the statutes of Lucknow University, which has a provision to increase the age of retirement of teaching staff members from 62 years to 65 years.

A bench of Justice Om Prakash Shukla laid down the University Grants Commission (Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Other Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education) Regulations, 2010 in terms of the Rules of the University of Lucknow. Ordered to make changes and amendments, in which there is a provision to increase the retirement age of teachers in universities and its affiliated colleges from 62 years to 65 years.
