At least 11 people died and dozens of others are feared trapped after a poisonous gas leak on Sua Road near Sherpur Chowk in Punjab’s Ludhiana on Sunday. The leakage of poisonous gas was first noticed at around 7.15 am. The entire area has been sealed and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams from Bathinda have reached for rescue operations. According to preliminary reports from local media, a gas leak was experienced from the cooling system of Goyal Milk Plant, a factory producing dairy products. Due to its effect, the nearby residents have reportedly fainted in their homes and it is being told that it is unsafe for anyone to enter this area recently. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has expressed grief over the gas leak incident in Ludhiana.

Expressing grief over the gas leak accident, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, ‘Police, administration and NDRF teams are present on the spot. All possible help is being given to the affected. It is said that people within a radius of 300 meters of the gas leak are having difficulty in breathing, due to which people are moving away from that area. Police and civil administration officials are on the spot providing assistance and relief efforts. Ambulances of social organizations have also reached to help in evacuating the affected persons. On this whole matter, SDM Swati has confirmed that 9 people were killed and 11 people became unconscious.

NDRF team started relief work
It is said that dairy products of many renowned companies come in Goyal Milk Plant, which are supplied further. A cooling system has been arranged to keep these dairy products safe, from where poisonous gas has leaked. Due to the gas leak, the movement of people in the affected area has been completely stopped. NDRF team has started rescue work.
