Former Chief Minister and prominent Lingayat leader of Karnataka Jagadish Shettar joined the Congress party in Bengaluru on Monday morning. Shettar took Congress membership in the presence of Congress party national president Mallikarjun Kharge and KPCC president DK Shivakumar. Earlier, Jagadish Shettar had held an important meeting with DK Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah and Randeep Surjewala in Bengaluru on Sunday evening and apprised them of his conditions. He is also likely to get Congress ticket (Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023) from Hubli-Dharwad Central constituency. Jagadish Shettar is a six-time MLA. He served as the Chief Minister of Karnataka and the State President of the BJP. He was denied a ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party for the assembly elections this time.
CM Bommai agreed that Shettar’s departure will make a difference
Meanwhile, Jagadish Shettar targeted the BJP and alleged that the party had treated him badly by humiliating him. He said, ‘I was humiliated and ill-treated by BJP leaders. Some leaders in the state are misusing the BJP’s system, which is very sad. Karnataka CM Bommai said that Shettar’s departure from the party could have an impact. He said, ‘Jagadish Shettar is a senior leader and his leaving the party will have an impact. We tried to persuade him by offering a prominent post in New Delhi and an assembly ticket to his family member, but Shettar was very adamant about his assembly ticket and would not agree to our terms. Nevertheless, now we will remove their influence in the Hubli-Dharwad region.
