New Delhi:
Raising the issue of the Bofors scam, the BJP has once again accused the Congress that the Congress government had also committed a scam in the purchase of guns for the army. Accusing the Congress and former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi of the Bofors scam in 1986, the BJP from its official Twitter account said that in 1986 India had signed a deal worth Rs 1,437 crore for the purchase of 400 howitzers.

In 1987, the then Rajiv Gandhi government was accused of corruption regarding this deal. In 1990, the CBI registered an FIR against Ottavio Quattrocchi (a family friend of Sonia Gandhi) for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery.
The BJP accused Ottavio Quattrocchi of allowing him to flee India in 1993 during Narasimha Rao’s Congress government, further stating that in 1999 the CBI filed a charge sheet stating that Ottavio Quattrocchi had accepted bribes of over seven million dollars. But in 1999, the Congress government officially asked foreign governments to lift the ban on transactions on its bank accounts.
By raising the issue of Bofors scam, the BJP has once again raised questions on Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra, besieging the Congress and the Gandhi family.
