
Sri Lanka Navy : Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 24 illegal fishermen from India. Along with this, 5 boats have also been seized. Actually, a Sri Lankan official issued a statement on Tuesday saying that all the fishermen caught had entered the Sri Lankan border, so this action has been taken. During this, the official also informed that all the fishermen were brought to Kankesanthurai port and handed over to the fisheries inspectorate. Where further action is being taken.
221 Indian fishermen arrested this year
At the same time, a Sri Lankan naval officer said that a total of 221 Indian fishermen have been arrested from the border so far this year. Also, 30 boats have also been seized from them so far. During the operation, Indian fishermen were also fired upon by the Navy. However, no one has been injured. At present, further action is going on in the matter.
Letter written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar
As soon as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin came to know about this matter, he informed the Central Government and wrote a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar that, “In this year alone, 221 fishermen from Tamil Nadu were caught by the Sri Lankan Navy. He said that repeated arrests by the Sri Lankan Navy are causing severe tension and anguish among the fishermen community in Tamil Nadu, who are entirely dependent on fishing. The fragile coastal economy is facing a crisis and needs our support.” Along with this, he has demanded to bring back the fishermen safely.
